Woman Drugs Nursing Mother, Steals 2-Month-Old Baby in Delta – Police Rescue Child

Delta police arrest woman for drugging mother and stealing baby

Delta State Police have arrested a 49-year-old woman, Mrs. Joy, for allegedly drugging a nursing mother and kidnapping her two-month-old baby. The incident occurred during a business trip from Koko to Warri on February 16, 2025.

According to Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olufemi Abaniwonda, the suspect laced the victim’s juice with a sedative, causing her to fall asleep before fleeing with the infant. “The mother woke up to find her baby missing,” Abaniwonda stated during a press briefing in Asaba.

Police launched an intelligence-led investigation, leading to Mrs. Joy’s arrest. The baby, now five months old, was safely recovered and reunited with his parents. “The suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation,” the CP added.

Authorities are investigating possible child trafficking links, as such cases have risen recently in Southern Nigeria. The suspect remains in custody pending further legal action.
