Atiku & Obi 2027 Alliance: LP Chieftain Proposes UK-Style Power-Sharing Deal to Defeat Tinubu

A chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), Gideon Aloba, has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Anambra Governor Peter Obi to form a strategic alliance ahead of the 2027 presidential election, warning that only a united opposition can unseat President Bola Tinubu.

According to a statement obtained by Sunday PUNCH, Aloba, a former House of Representatives candidate, proposed a UK-style coalition agreement similar to the 2010 Conservative-Liberal Democrat pact. He emphasized that a mere “president-and-spare-tyre” arrangement would fail without clear roles.

“To defeat Tinubu in 2027, there must be a handshake between Atiku and Obi. One must shelve ambition and offer strategic support,” Aloba stated. He suggested a binding agreement where one leader manages the economy while the other oversees security and anti-corruption.

“The merger is inevitable but delicate. A well-negotiated, documented pact is the best safeguard for Nigeria’s future,” he added, stressing the need for political maturity to manage ticket dynamics and retain supporters.
