Rebecca Cheptegei, an Olympic marathon runner, is fighting for her life after being set on fire by her boyfriend in a horrific domestic violence incident.
The 33-year-old athlete, who represented Uganda at the Paris Olympics this summer, suffered burns on over 75% of her body.

The attack occurred at her home in Endebess, Kenya, where police say her boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema Marangach, doused her in petrol during an argument before igniting the fire.

Local police chief Jeremiah ole Kosiom reported that the couple was heard arguing outside their home. During the altercation, Marangach allegedly poured a flammable liquid over Cheptegei and set her ablaze.
Neighbors rushed to extinguish the flames and transported both individuals to the Kitale County Referral Hospital. Marangach also sustained severe burns in the incident.

The Ugandan Athletics Federation released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident.
They confirmed that Cheptegei is receiving treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya. The federation called for prayers for her recovery and support in these challenging times.
