DR Congo Opposition Protests Demand Release of Political Prisoners Amid Human Rights Scrutiny

Hundreds of protesters in the Democratic Republic of Congo gathered outside the nation’s top court to demand the release of key political prisoners, including opposition leaders Jean-Marc Kabund, Mike Mukebayi, and Seth Kikuni. 

These opposition figures were arrested for charges such as "insulting the head of state" and "incitement of civil disobedience," fueling allegations of government repression under President Felix Tshisekedi. 

The demonstration occurred as the DRC faces scrutiny over its human rights record, with the country controversially bidding for a seat on the UN Human Rights Council.
