On his way home in Malvern, Johannesburg, Hadebe was shot nine times by unknown assailants, leaving his lifeless body to be discovered by police on August 10, 2024. Cartridges were found at the crime scene, confirming the nature of the attack.
The Women For Change advocacy group stated that Hadebe, recently transitioning, identified as a trans woman.
Reports suggest a possible premeditated attack following an encounter with a man who showed interest in Hadebe but was unaware of his gender identity.
