Lagos okays N750m health insurance premium for vulnerable residents

Lagos State government has released N750 million to the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), being one per cent of the state’s consolidated revenue fund, to enable the agency cater for the health of the vulnerable in the society.

The First Lady of the state, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu and the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, stated this, yesterday, at the equity fund beneficiaries town hall meeting flag-off of LASHMA, saying that over 100,000 vulnerable persons are beneficiaries of the equity fund.

The governor’s wife, represented by Mrs. Funmi Omotoso, said the state’s plan to ensure healthy residents had been anchored on health insurance.

On his part, Abayomi, represented by Olamide Okulaja, said Lagos State is home to over 20 million residents and statistics showed that about 70 per cent of Lagos residents live below poverty line of $1.9 per day.  Theguardianng
