5 schools qualify for Zenith Bank Delta Principals’ Cup quarterfinals
Five schools have qualified for the quarterfinals of the ongoing Delta State Principals’ Cup football competition sponsored by Zenith Bank following the conclusion of the zonal stage.
The zonal stage of the annual developmental tournament in its fourth edition this year started on Wednesday and should have produced all the quarterfinalists on Friday, but for some logistics reasons in Delta State.
However, there are confirmed winners from five out of the eight zones, while the remaining three will be decided before Wednesday.
From Zone H, College of Commerce, Warri, from Warri South LGA emerged champions ahead of Warri North Representatives and Uvwie at the Obule Integrated Schools, Sapele.
Alaka Government Secondary School, Ozoro, from Isoko North qualified from Zone G ahead of representatives from Bomadi, Ndokwa West and Patani after two round of games decided at the Ughelli Township Stadium.
In Zone C, it was Springate International School, Umutu from Ukwuani LGA that picked the last eight slot after edging out representatives from Ethiope East and Isoko South in zonal games decided at the Utagba Ogbe Grammar School, Kwale.
From Zone E, Okotie-Eboh Grammar School, from Sapele LGA also earned a berth after outplaying representatives from Warri South and Ethiope West at the Urhobo College venue, just as Zone F produced Ogulagha G/S, Ogulagha, from Burutu LGA. Ogulagba earned the ticket at the Hussey College Warri ahead of LG winners from Ughelli South and Okpe.
Three more qualifiers from Zones A, B and D are yet to emerge to compete the eight tickets as the quarterfinal matches are billed to take place on October 30 in four venues yet to be determined by the organisers of the competition.
Chairman, Technical Committee of the ongoing Zenith Bank/Delta Principals’ Cup football competition, Lucky Sunday, at the weekend said the final fixtures of the tournament remained unchanged despite the hitches that led to the non-completion of zonal matches as planned. (Theguardianng)
