Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has opened up about the emotional toll inside the dressing room after fans at Old Trafford booed the players off following a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.
The defeat marks Manchester United’s second heavy loss in a single week and extends their winless streak to eight matches across all competitions.
While the Stretford End sang supportively for Carrick as he applauded the stadium, supporters turned their anger toward the squad as they retreated down the tunnel, directing furious chants at the players, the Glazer family, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and Director of Football Jason Wilcox.
Speaking to journalists post-match on October 26, 2026, Carrick admitted to feeling mixed emotions regarding the fans' contrasting treatment of him versus the squad.
He clarified that he chose not to address the crowd's reaction collectively in the dressing room immediately after the final whistle due to high emotions, but stressed that the players were deeply hurt by their current form.
Despite growing calls for top executives like Wilcox and Chief Executive Omar Berrada to address supporters directly, Carrick maintained that his focus remains on managing team performance and navigating the club out of its ongoing crisis.
"There's a lot of emotion in the changing room right now, there's a lot of disappointment, there's a lot of the boys quite hurt... It's not like they don't care, or they want to be in this position." — Michael Carrick
