The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has delivered a scathing assessment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, asserting that the President lacks the competence, capacity, compassion, and physical energy required to navigate Nigeria out of its compounding socioeconomic and security crises.
Speaking during the inauguration of the NDC Presidential Campaign Council in Kaduna on Monday, October 26, 2026, Obi declared that the country is collapsing under current federal leadership.
Addressing party delegates and supporters, the former Anambra State governor stated that his nationwide consultations have revealed an overwhelming demand among citizens for a fundamental shift in executive governance.
Obi sharply criticized the administration's handling of national security, contrasting his proposed hands-on crisis management strategy with what he termed executive detachment in the face of widespread mass abductions.
He pledged that under an NDC presidency, executive leadership would be physically present at conflict hotspots across the federation to oversee counter-terrorism and rescue operations directly alongside security personnel.
"Today, Tinubu is leading a government that lacks competence, a government that lacks capacity, compassion, and commitment to deal with Nigeria's problems... Nigeria needs a president that is available, that will be there." — Peter Obi
