An Upper Area Court sitting in Otukpo, Benue State, has remanded Daniel Ujah, a 43-year-old former councillor representing Awume-Icho Ward, over charges of attempted culpable homicide and severe assault.
According to police charges (CR33/2026), Ujah allegedly trespassed into the home of Amina Iduh at Akwutulo, Awume, on August 28, 2026.
The prosecution stated that the former councillor beat the woman, pushed her into an open fire—causing severe burns to her lower body and burning her clothes—and threatened her life.
Police officers subsequently transported the victim to a hospital in Onyagede for medical care. Despite pleading not guilty through his legal representative, presiding Magistrate Hasia Garuba rejected bail and ordered Ujah remanded at the Otukpo Correctional Centre until September 22, 2026.
