The Jigawa State Government has announced the passing of the Emir of Gumel, Dr Ahmad Muhammad Sani, who died in Cairo, Egypt, at the age of 84 following a distinguished 46-year reign.
Announcing the transition on behalf of the state, the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government (SSG), Malam Bala Ibrahim, described the death of the first-class traditional ruler as a monumental loss.
Appointed to the throne in 1981, Dr Sani’s reign brought massive structural development, improved public healthcare delivery, and heightened school enrolment across the Gumel Emirate.
Notably, the late monarch was widely respected for his diplomatic efforts in maintaining peaceful bilateral relations with neighboring border communities in the Republic of Niger.
