Why is Access Bank Shutdown Rumors Trending?

National banking portals, fintech tracking channels, and social media platforms across Nigeria are processing high search volume following a viral hoax that triggered panic among depositors.

Access Bank Plc is trending across headlines after issuing an urgent public statement to debunk a fake circular circulating on social media and WhatsApp.

The fraudulent notice—which impersonated official communications—claimed the tier-1 lender would shut down all operations in late September 2026. The widespread sharing of the message caused momentary panic among account holders, leading to public inquiries regarding the security of their funds.
