Self-acclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), Simon Ekpa, has expressed optimism that his six-year prison sentence delivered by a Finnish court will be reversed on appeal.
Following his conviction on September 1, 2025, for terrorism-related offenses linked to inciting violence in South-Eastern Nigeria, Ekpa addressed fellow agitators during appeal hearing proceedings on Thursday, August 6, 2026, maintaining that his conviction remains a miscarriage of justice.
The Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland previously sentenced the pro-Biafra activist to six years in prison after finding him guilty of sponsoring separatism, inciting terrorism, tax fraud, and regulatory violations.

Speaking on Thursday, Ekpa insisted that the true facts behind his case will be vindicated during the appellate process and declared that the Finnish judicial authorities targeted the wrong individual.
