Senator Francis Fadahunsi has denied allegations that he incited political violence ahead of the Osun State governorship election, claiming that a viral video shared by social media figures was selectively edited to distort his message.
The lawmaker stated that his comments were made in direct response to the recurring violence and reported killings of party members in Ilesa and surrounding areas.
Fadahunsi clarified that his remarks were intended as a call for justice and self-defense against political thugs rather than an endorsement of violence.
Expressing concern over the security situation in Ilesa, he urged electoral stakeholders to ensure that the upcoming governorship election is decided by policy debates and voter choice rather than bloodshed.
He called on political actors and residents to maintain peace across the state throughout the electoral process.
"My statement was very clear: if the killings do not stop, we shall also retaliate. We are here to lodge complaints and demand justice. It is unacceptable for human beings to kill fellow human beings." — Senator Francis Fadahunsi
