At least 38 Nigerien soldiers were killed on Friday, July 30, following coordinated attacks by suspected Islamic State fighters targeting military forward operating bases in the country's Dosso and Diffa regions.
According to reports compiled by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the latest heavy assault occurred at Dankassari, located between Doutchi and Yaya in the Dosso Region, where extremist forces overran a Forward Operating Base of the Nigerien Defence and Security Forces (FDS) after intense gunfights, killing 21 soldiers.
The tragic incident followed a separate attack hours earlier in the town of N’Guigmi within the Diffa Region, where 17 security personnel, including a military officer, lost their lives.
