Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and ex-Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, has officially resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party leadership of abandoning its founding values.
In a resignation letter dated August 31, 2026, and addressed to the APC Chairman of Ward 4 in Brass Local Government Area, Sylva stated that his decision followed extensive consultations with family, associates, and political colleagues.
Sylva, a founding member of the party, expressed frustration over the APC's current political approach, alleging that basic standards of decency and morality have been eroded within the organization.
The high-profile exit comes amid ongoing legal troubles for the former minister, who was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in November 2025 over an alleged $14.8 million fund conversion linked to the Atlantic International Refinery project.
