The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly frozen a major Osun State Government bank account domiciled with First Bank, coming just ten days ahead of the state's highly anticipated gubernatorial election.
The sudden enforcement has triggered strong political reactions across the state, escalating tensions between the anti-graft agency and the local administration ahead of the August 15 poll.

Reacting to the development, the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, condemned the account restriction, characterizing it as a deliberate effort to paralyze official state operations and influence the democratic process in the final lead-up to the election.
Governor Adeleke maintained that the action lacks legal backing, asserting that statutory provisions do not grant the EFCC authorization to arbitrarily lock out a sovereign state government from its financial operations.
