Demola Olarenwaju, the Senior Political Assistant to the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has characterized the embattled former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, as an entirely unique fixture within Nigeria's contemporary political landscape.
Olarenwaju attributed this distinction directly to El-Rufai’s rare combination of sharp analytical clarity, advanced strategic planning capabilities, and a pragmatic willingness to personally execute difficult political maneuvers.
The former Kaduna State governor and prominent chieftain of the ADC has been held in detention by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) since February 19, 2026.

The legal pressure intensified on April 13, when the anti-graft agency formally arraigned him before a Kaduna High Court on a revised set of nine criminal charges centering on allegations of systemic fraud and gross misuse of office.
El-Rufai is currently undergoing judicial trial amid mounting concerns regarding his personal health and the controversial arrest of his private physician.
“What makes El-Rufai unique in Nigeria’s politics is his clear headedness and depth of strategic thought with tactical implementational balance," Olarenwaju posted on his official X account.
"He is not only a planner but if nobody will do the dirties, my man will off his white and enter the mud himself. Hate to love him. They will eventually run out of excuses to keep holding the man."
Olarenwaju strongly criticized the prolonged nature of the detention, asserting that the state's justifications would eventually collapse and expose a deeper layer of political hypocrisy to the international community.
Despite the heavy corruption charges hovering over the former governor, the presidential aide declared his continued solidarity and admiration for El-Rufai's tactical focus, framing the ongoing legal battle as an institutional test of courage and political endurance.
