Bayo Onanuga Rejects Peter Obi's Political Persecution Claims

The Presidency has strongly condemned claims made by the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, who alleged that the Federal Government is deliberately targeting his business interests and threatening his life to frustrate his 2027 political ambitions.

In a sharp rebuttal issued via social media, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, dismissed the former Anambra State Governor's allegations as completely baseless, false, and politically motivated.

The controversy erupted following Obi's recent appearance on a podcast hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo, where the opposition leader painted a grim picture of intense official harassment.

Obi claimed that an incident involving his vehicle at a domestic airport was proof of targeted intimidation and suggested that he might not survive to witness the January 2027 general elections if the alleged state-sponsored pressure continues.

Presidency vs Peter Obi Dispute

Dispute Vector Opposition Claims (Obi) Presidency Rebuttal
Banking / Business Interests State targeting of personal banking and business interests. Financial institution is thriving under reforms.
Vehicle Airport Incident Vehicle airport incident was official harassment. Routine breach of parking regulations, not targeted.
Assassination Fears Assassination fears ahead of January 2027 polls. Fabricated narrative to win cheap public sympathy.

Rebunking the narrative, Onanuga countered that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration has neither the time nor the inclination to persecute political adversaries, maintaining that the airport incident was merely a routine enforcement of parking regulations.

The presidential spokesman added that the tier-1 bank in which Obi holds substantial interests is currently thriving under the country's recent economic reforms, proving that no regulatory vendetta exists.

The Presidency urged the public to see through the "victim playbook," stating that the administration remains laser-focused on national governance rather than opposition propaganda.
