Tensions Flare in Osun as IGP Alao Jidisu Confronts Governor Adeleke Over Reports of Political Criminals in Government House
Ahead of the highly anticipated Osun State governorship election, the Inspector General of Police, Alao Jidisu, conducted his maiden official visit to the state amid sharply rising political anxieties and recurring outbreaks of violence.
In a high-stakes meeting at the Osun State Government House, the nation's top police chief directly addressed intelligence reports indicating that individuals wanted for political thuggery and other crimes are actively taking refuge within the seat of power.
Expressing deep institutional concern over the rising body count and persistent clashes between opposing political factions, IGP Jidisu stated that the Nigeria Police Force will not tolerate electoral violence. He revealed that the state's Commissioner of Police briefed him on specific suspects hibernating inside the Government House.
"I looked at that—if that is true, why should suspects be in Government House?" Jidisu questioned openly, confirming that he has ordered the command to aggressively root out criminals, regardless of their political party affiliations. He also made a stern public appeal to parents to prevent their children from being deployed as cannon fodder for desperate politicians.
In a swift and sharp rebuttal, Governor Ademola Adeleke vehemently dismissed the allegations, claiming that none of his associates or relatives are involved in political violence.
Instead, the governor turned the spotlight back on the local law enforcement infrastructure, accusing the Osun State Police Command of blatant partisanship and demanding immediate institutional reforms to guarantee neutral policing.
Following the tense meeting at the state capital, the Inspector General proceeded to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, where he engaged traditional leaders to help curb the wave of political assassinations ahead of the polls.
