The national leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has openly rejected the Osun State Government's decision to suspend union activities in motor parks, asserting that Governor Ademola Adeleke lacks the constitutional authority to stop its operations.
In response to the state government's order, the union inaugurated a seven-member caretaker committee headed by Kazeem Oyewale (popularly known as Asiri Eniba) at its national headquarters in Abuja to manage affairs in the state.
Speaking on behalf of NURTW National President Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), Deputy National President Aliyu Ore emphasized that the union was established by an Act of law independent of state government control.
Ore noted that the establishment of functional leadership in Osun was critical to fulfilling the union's Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for logistics and election material transportation ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
"No state governor has the power to suspend the activities of the union because we are not under any state government. There is an Act that established the NURTW."
