Following a grueling 67-day nightmare inside dense forest hideouts, abducted worshippers of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Igbala assembly, located in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, have finally regained their hard-fought freedom from heavily armed syndicates.
The victims were abruptly released late Friday night, drawing the curtain on over two months of emotional anguish and paralyzing uncertainty for the rural community within the Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
Eyewitness accounts from the border community confirmed that the haggard-looking survivors arrived back in Eda Oniyo around midnight.
They were immediately rushed to a local health facility by anxious relatives for emergency clinical evaluations and psychiatric trauma care to address the severe physical and psychological degradation endured throughout their prolonged captivity.
"The victims were kidnapped on April 28, 2026, when heavily armed gunmen invaded a revival programme organised by the church at its prayer mountain in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti.
The attackers reportedly opened fire during the programme, killing a pastor before abducting 15 worshippers and marching them into the forest," local community organizers detailed grimly.
A prominent community leader confirming the operational development noted that while the safe return of the survivors brings immense relief, deep mourning has enveloped the axis after it was revealed that one of the captives tragically lost their life during the ordeal.
The precise logistical circumstances surrounding their midnight release—including whether a financial ransom was processed to secure the safe passage of the 14 survivors—remain obscured.
