The Kebbi State Police Command has smashed a highly coordinated criminal syndicate specializing in local extortion and targeted abduction threats, arresting four young suspects who allegedly conspired to extort N30 million from a prominent resident of Jega town.
The operation, executed by high-grade operational units, neutralized the violent plot before any physical harm or abduction could be perpetrated against the target.
According to a formal public safety disclosure issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the breakthrough followed an emergency criminal complaint lodged by the victim, Alhaji Aminu Garba.
Garba reported receiving a barrage of anonymous, highly aggressive phone calls from hidden syndicates demanding an immediate payout of N30,000,000, warning that failure to deliver the cash would result in his immediate kidnapping.
Activating swift, intelligence-led tracking systems, police operatives traced the cellular signals directly to rural hideouts, arresting Muhammad Shafiu (21), Mansur Ibrahim (21), Aliyu Umar (25), and Muhammad Suleiman (23) across Gumbin Kure and Gamjeji villages in the Maiyama Local Government Area.
"Investigation revealed that the 1st, 2nd and 3rd suspects procured a new SIM card and repeatedly called the victim, with one of them disguising his voice to sound like a Fulani man in an attempt to instill fear and conceal his identity.
The investigation further established that the 4th suspect, a family friend of the victim, supplied the victim's phone number and family details, which were used to facilitate the threats," SP Bashir Usman detailed.
The tactical details have sent waves of concern through the Jega community, exposing how intimate household access is increasingly weaponized by domestic criminal rings.
Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to finalize forensic dossiers and initiate immediate prosecution.
Reaffirming the command's unyielding stance on kidnapping and insider extortion schemes, CP Hadejia urged members of the public to maintain heightened operational security regarding their personal telecommunications data and promptly flag anonymous threats via the state's dedicated emergency hotlines (09039911876 and 07081074395).
