Colombian music icon Shakira has opened up about her decision to team up with Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy for the official 2026 FIFA World Cup song, "Dai Dai."
Speaking during a feature on the *Capital Evening Show* with Jimmy Hill, Shakira explained that the anthem required a powerful, masculine vocal energy, making Burna Boy the undisputed candidate for the track.
The pop superstar revealed that she had long admired Burna Boy’s artistic output and personally initiated contact to secure his feature.
Following its release, "Dai Dai" achieved record-breaking success globally, becoming the first track to peak at number one on Spotify's newly inaugurated Global Music Video Chart.
The hit single also made Burna Boy the first African artist to top the Apple Music Global Top Songs chart and notch record monthly listener peaks across major streaming platforms.
"I have always loved Burna. I was obsessed with getting him on the track, so I called him... I couldn’t imagine anybody else on it, actually."
