Former Miss Universe Nigeria and Miss South Africa finalist, Chidimma Adetshina, was subjected to hostile anti-immigrant slurs outside the Cape Town Regional Court by a group of local women as her ongoing deportation trial continues.
Adetshina, who was arrested in Cape Town after South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs declared her a prohibited person over disputed citizenship documents, appeared in court to challenge a planned deportation order aimed at removing her from the country.
Viral video footage captured outside the courtroom showed several South African women shouting xenophobic slogans at the beauty queen, demanding that she leave South Africa and return to Nigeria.

Inside the courtroom, legal counsel representing the Department of Home Affairs argued that Adetshina lacks valid immigration status and should remain in custody pending deportation, citing her refusal to surrender a South African passport.
Conversely, her legal team requested that she be permitted to remain free while reporting fortnightly to an immigration officer while her status is reviewed.
The presiding magistrate, Reema Khorana, adjourned the civil matter until August 19, 2026, when the court is expected to deliver a formal ruling on the lawfulness of her detention and the pending deportation order.
