The 53-year-old icon was named in the King's 2026 New Year’s Honours list, but the moment was made official on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, when the 77-year-old monarch traditionally tapped a ceremonial sword on Elba’s shoulders as he knelt.

As an aspiring 18-year-old actor growing up in East London, he received a vital £1,500 grant from the Prince’s Trust (now rebranded as the King’s Trust) which enabled him to attend the National Youth Music Theatre and launch his stellar career.
