In a highly coordinated counter-terrorism sweep, troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion under Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai successfully rescued 53 civilian hostages abducted by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Borno State.
The decisive rescue operation was executed along the strategic Buratai–Kamuya Road located within the Biu Local Government Area.
Acting Military Information Officer for Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, confirmed the operational details on Friday, noting that the tactical engagement took place on June 23, 2026.
According to military authorities, troops stationed at the Dutse Kura observation post initially detected the insurgent activities through remote battlefield surveillance cameras, which captured the terrorists actively setting up an illegal checkpoint across the highway.
A Quick Reaction Force (QRF) team was immediately dispatched to the coordinates. Upon arrival, the QRF units aggressively pursued the fleeing insurgents toward the Mangari–Dora general area, engaging them in a fierce, high-velocity firefight that eventually forced the criminal elements to abandon their captives and scatter in disarray into the thick foliage.
"The QRF team swiftly mobilised to the scene and pursued the insurgents towards the Mangari–Dora general area, where they made contact and engaged the terrorists in a firefight," Captain Mohammed Goni stated.
The operational victory yielded the direct rescue of 53 kidnapped citizens and led to the immediate recovery of eight civilian vehicles that had been violently seized by the terrorists to execute their highway operations.
Following the firefight, the special forces advanced to clear the insurgents’ anticipated withdrawal routes and heavily dominated the surrounding geography.
All rescued victims and recovered assets were safely evacuated to Buratai, where the civilians are currently undergoing mandatory security documentation and comprehensive medical evaluations.
