The Ogun State Police Command has issued a strong public clarification debunking widespread, panicked social media reports alleging that heavily armed bandits and terrorists had invaded local communities and primary educational institutions within Ota, Ifo, and adjoining borders.
In an official security brief released on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, declared that the state remains completely safe, secure, and peaceful, dismissing the viral security alerts as malicious fabrications designed to ignite public panic.
The security panic escalated following an intelligence-led operation in the Kajola-Ilese axis of Atan-Ota, where tactical operatives raided a residential apartment and arrested 38 foreign nationals originating from Côte d’Ivoire.
The suspects, consisting of an equal split of 19 males and 19 females aged between 25 and 35 years, claimed they entered Nigeria to execute digital online business activities, but failed to produce any valid passport, visa, or official immigration clearance documentation.

PPRO Oluseyi confirmed that the suspects have been formally processed and transferred to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for proper administrative prosecution.
The police strongly condemned fear-mongering netizens who attempted to links these undocumented migrants to regional banditry, especially coming amid heightened regional tensions following recent student abductions in neighboring Oyo State.
The command recalled that just a week prior, it apprehended a local tailor, Qawiyu Oloyede, who confessed to staging and circulating a fake TikTok video showing a simulated bandit invasion of Atan-Ota purely to gather digital followership, prompting a severe warning from the law enforcement agency against the illegal dissemination of unverified security propaganda.
