The Kebbi State Police Command has launched a full-scale criminal investigation and an aggressive regional manhunt for a local resident following a horrific, accidental firearm discharge that claimed the life of his 25-year-old wife in Geza Village, located within the Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.
According to preliminary incident findings made public by security expert Zagazola Makama, the tragic sequence unfolded on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, when the suspect, identified as Auwalu Hassan, allegedly instructed his young wife, Sa’ima Sani, to retrieve a loaded, locally built Dane gun that had been stored inside one of the residential rooms.
Tragedy struck as the victim compliance-tested the order, carrying the dangerous weapon toward the rear section of the compound where her husband was waiting. The primitive firearm suddenly discharged mid-transit, striking Sani directly with high-impact ammunition wounds to her stomach and left hand.

Upon receiving a frantic distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Bagudo rapidly mobilized an emergency response team to the scene, successfully evacuating the heavily bleeding victim to the General Hospital, Bagudo, where she unfortunately succumbed to her extensive internal trauma while receiving life-saving medical treatment.
Following the announcement of her death, Hassan immediately fled the community. Police authorities have processed the crime scene and released the body to grieving family members for traditional Islamic burial rites, while heavily cautioning the public to maintain strict defensive safety compliance regarding private firearm storage to prevent entirely avoidable domestic fatalities.
