The political landscape in Northern Nigeria is witnessing an early shakeup as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) officially unveiled its political flagbearers for Kano State ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The political movement began trending rapidly after the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, announced the selection of Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo as the party’s consensus gubernatorial candidate.
Gwarzo, a trusted Kwankwaso loyalist, previously served as the Deputy Governor of Kano State under Governor Abba Yusuf.

In the same consultative wave, Kwankwaso revealed that the former Deputy Governor and prominent political figure, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has been selected to run for the highly competitive Kano Central Senatorial district seat under the NDC banner.
According to party leadership, these strategic appointments were carried out to ensure internal party equity, loyalty, and competence as the NDC moves aggressively to consolidate its footprint across regional strongholds like Kano and Rivers State.
