The Borno State Police Command is in mourning following the tragic death of Inspector Abdulkadir Garba, popularly known as “Buratai.”
The dedicated officer lost his life to a powerful lightning strike on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, while performing his duties outside the command headquarters in Maiduguri.
According to the Command PPRO, ASP Nahum Daso, Inspector Garba was coordinating vehicle parking alongside a senior colleague, ASP Wazani Adamu, when a sudden storm broke out.

As they attempted to seek shelter, a loud thunderclap was followed by a strike that hit both men. While ASP Adamu miraculously survived, Inspector Garba was directly impacted and died from partial burns.
According to Qubes Magazine, "Buratai" was widely respected for his commitment to service, often standing under the scorching sun to maintain order.
“One moment, duty calls. The next moment, eternity answers,” Daso remarked in a moving tribute to the fallen officer.
