Tragedy has struck the Akungba Akoko community in the Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State following the gruesome murder of a local farmer, Oladunjoye Otele Ajiwoju.

The victim's decomposing body was discovered inside the Odeegbo canal, exactly ten days after he was officially declared missing by his devastated family members.

The deceased had originally left his residence after returning from a joint farming trip with his cousin, informing his mother that he was heading out to socialize within the neighborhood.

Alarm bells rang when he failed to return home, prompting his relatives to assume he had relocated to his secondary farm settlement at Igboye Camp in Supare-Akoko.

The family's worst fears were confirmed when an online photograph of an unidentified body floating in a canal surfaced on social media.

According to a legal update obtained, the victim's family has formally requested a high-level intervention from law enforcement.

"After carefully examining the picture, even though only the back view was visible, we discovered that it was Mr. Oladunjoye Otele Ajiwoju who was murdered and dumped in the canal," stated family representative Dr. Johnson Ajiwoju.

Through their legal counsel, Bayo Olorunmeke, the family submitted a formal petition to the Ondo State Commissioner of Police demanding a thorough forensic investigation.

“We humbly call your good office to investigate this matter and bring the perpetrator to justice," the petition read. "Mr. Oladunjoye Ajiwoju, on the 6th of May, 2026, told his mother that he wanted to go to the farm with his cousin... he came back from the farm on that day and later went out to play as usual, but did not return home."

The police command has acknowledged receipt of the legal document, promising to deploy homicide detectives to Akungba Akoko to reconstruct the victim's final movements and apprehend those responsible for the killing.
