The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed the passing of a female corps member at the temporary orientation camp in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The deceased reportedly died at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) on Monday evening, April 27, 2026.
State Coordinator Nasir Bello clarified that the deceased did not die during drills, stating she arrived at the camp with a pre-existing underlying ailment and was assisted throughout her registration.
However, conflicting reports from camp sources suggest the lady collapsed after Monday evening’s physical exercises.
One serving corps member alleged that the deceased was a diabetic patient whose medications were seized at the camp gate during entry.
“She has not been taking her drugs according to what we heard from her friends,” the source stated.
The NYSC has yet to officially confirm the nature of the ailment or the allegations regarding the seizure of her medication.
