The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two senior citizens, including an 83-year-old man, for their alleged involvement in the sale of illicit substances.
The suspects, identified as Pa John Ofiel (83) and Ogunjobi Samuel (78), were apprehended during separate operations in Abia and Ekiti states.
In a statement released on Sunday by NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, it was revealed that Pa Ofiel was arrested on April 28, 2026, during a targeted raid at the Samek area in Aba, Abia State.
Officers recovered 700 grams of "skunk"—a potent strain of cannabis—already packaged in retail sachets.
Upon his arrest, the octogenarian confessed that he was formerly a professional shoemaker before turning to the illegal drug trade.
Meanwhile, in Ekiti State, 78-year-old Ogunjobi Samuel was caught at his residence in Ilupeju-Ekiti on April 30.
Operatives seized 350 grams of psychoactive substances from him.
According to Qubes Magazine, the NDLEA has intensified its "War Against Drug Abuse" (WADA) campaign, focusing on dismantling local distribution hubs regardless of the age of the perpetrators.
These arrests highlight a growing concern regarding the involvement of elderly individuals in organized drug peddling across the country.
