The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has arrested eight Nigerian nationals alongside 66 other suspects during a series of intelligence-led anti-narcotics and crime suppression raids executed across the Upper East Region of Ghana.
The extensive law enforcement operation targeted active narcotics distribution networks, violent crimes, and illicit smuggling syndicates operating within strategic border communities and identified criminal hideouts.
According to an official security statement released by the GPS, the first phase of the operation was carried out on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Paga, located within the volatile Ghana–Burkina Faso border buffer zone.
This raid led to the arrest of 40 suspects, comprising 28 males and 12 females, including 23 Ghanaians, eight Nigerians, six Burkinabés, one Malian, and one Togolese national.

Operational exhibits recovered from the scene included hidden sacks of suspected narcotic substances and five motorcycles used for cross-border distribution.
A follow-up sweep on Friday, May 22, within the Navrongo Municipality netted an additional 34 suspects and yielded 11 more motorcycles, illicit drugs, and contraband foreign cigarettes.
The entire group of suspects was arraigned before High Court Two in the region, presided over by His Lordship Justice Ernest Pascal Gemadzie.
The court ordered 16 of the suspects remanded in police custody until June 4, 2026, while the remaining 22 are undergoing intensive profiling, marking another major milestone following the March 2026 sweep where 93 Nigerians were nabbed for cybercrime and human trafficking in Accra.
