Prominent Lagos politician and former gubernatorial candidate Funsho Doherty has officially joined the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), marking his second major party switch in recent weeks.
Doherty, who recently moved from the PDP to the ADC, announced on Thursday that the African Democratic Congress is currently grappling with internal divisions that have fractured the opposition coalition.
In a statement, Doherty expressed that while he initially hoped the ADC would unite the opposition, the party's current split necessitated a move to the NDC to ensure the delivery of good governance.

“The battle ahead remains formidable, but I invite you to join us on this exciting journey to a brighter future,” he stated, describing the NDC as the most viable path for the citizens of Lagos and Nigeria.
According to Qubes Magazine, Doherty’s defection is part of a larger trend of high-profile moves to the newly formed NDC.
His departure is seen as a significant blow to the ADC’s structure in Lagos as political actors realign their interests toward the 2027 general elections.
