The Enugu State Government has announced the arrest of Mrs. Ogechi John following the alleged murder of her nine-year-old stepdaughter, Amanda John.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday at their residence in Nchatancha, Emene, where neighbors claimed the young girl was subjected to repeated maltreatment before being beaten to death.
Mrs. John, an indigene of Ebonyi State, is currently in police custody.
The Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Ngozi Enih, condemned the act in the strongest terms, reiterating the Mbah administration’s "zero tolerance" for child abuse and homicide.

She assured the public that the state would monitor the case closely to ensure a swift and thorough investigation.
According to Qubes Magazine, the state government has pledged to provide full legal and social support to ensure justice is served. "Nobody should take another person’s life, especially that of a child in Enugu State," Enih stated.
The authorities are currently awaiting an official autopsy report to confirm the specific cause of the child’s death.
