US President Donald Trump has deleted a controversial AI-generated image from his Truth Social platform following a wave of "blasphemy" accusations from prominent religious leaders and conservative allies.
The image depicted Trump in flowing red and white robes, appearing to perform a miraculous healing on a sick man, complete with divine light emanating from his head.
While the post sparked immediate outrage, Trump denied any intention of comparing himself to Jesus Christ during a press briefing on Monday.
“I did post it, and I thought it was me as a doctor and had to do Red Cross,” Trump told journalists. “It’s supposed to be me as a doctor, making people better. And I do make people better.”
Conservative commentator Megan Basham was among those calling for an immediate apology, labeling the post "OUTRAGEOUS blasphemy."
Analysts suggest this incident, combined with Trump's public spat with Pope Leo XIV over the Middle East war, could threaten his support among Catholic voters as the 2026 political landscape shifts.
