Tragedy at the Border: 20 Killed as Terrorists Raid Pubagu and Mayo-Ladde Communities
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a deadly assault on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, killing 20 people in communities bordering Borno and Adamawa States.
The insurgents reportedly stormed Pubagu (Borno) and Mayo-Ladde (Adamawa) around 4 p.m., operating on motorcycles for over an hour.
The Chairman of Askira Uba Local Government Area, Mada Saidu, confirmed the casualties exclusively to Punch Online.
He stated that 11 residents were killed in Borno, while 9 lost their lives in Adamawa.
The two communities are separated only by a river, allowing the attackers to strike both locations in quick succession.
“The terrorists were well armed and in much greater numbers. The local hunters and vigilantes tried their best, but they were overpowered and forced to flee for their lives,” a survivor recounted.
This latest massacre follows an attack on April 16 in the same local government area, where four soldiers and a woman were killed.
Residents report that the attackers looted property and burned shops before escaping into the bush, leaving the communities in a state of mourning and fear.
