The ink had barely dried on President Bola Tinubu’s pledge to end the cycle of violence in Plateau State when fresh attacks rocked the region, leaving one person dead and several others injured.
In a direct defiance of the President’s "never again" declaration made on Thursday, suspected terrorists launched an assault on the Jol community in Riyom Local Government Area in the early hours of Friday, April 3, 2026.
According to Channels Tv, 51-year-old Dalyop Betobeje was killed during the 6:56 a.m. raid, which residents believe originated from the Rankum (Mahanga) axis.
This follows a separate Wednesday night ambush in the Heipang District of Bassa LGA, where a secondary school student, Gloria Godwin, was murdered by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) has condemned the renewed killings as a "brutal and senseless act" designed to undermine the Federal Government’s latest security interventions.
“It is a direct affront to the peace efforts we saw yesterday. Our communities deserve more than reassurances; they deserve safety,” stated Jacob Pam Chall, Chairman of BYM Heipang District.
While President Tinubu’s visit brought a promise of 5,000 AI-enabled cameras and a direct mandate to "find the killers," these subsequent breaches highlight the persistent volatility in rural Plateau.
Security agencies have confirmed they are currently tracking the assailants, but for the residents of Jol and Heipang, the gap between political promises and ground-level security remains a life-and-death struggle.
