Emergency responders are currently battling to save a worker trapped under the debris of a collapsed three-storey building in the Jikwoyi District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The incident occurred at approximately 11:17 a.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that five individuals have already been successfully pulled from the rubble.
The survivors were immediately evacuated to Sister Nativity Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Zakari Abubakar, Head of the NEMA Abuja Operations Office, is currently leading a multi-agency response team including the FCT Fire Service, NSCDC, the Nigerian Red Cross, and the Nigeria Police Force.
“Preliminary information from workers at the site indicates that one person may still be trapped under the debris, necessitating the deployment of excavators and other heavy-duty equipment,” NEMA stated in an official release.
The building was reportedly under construction at the time of the collapse.
While the focus remains on the rescue of the final trapped individual, authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the structural integrity of the project and whether building codes were strictly followed.
