"Arsenal Have Been Robbed": Chris Sutton Reacts to Controversial UCL Draw With Atletico

Arsenal players protesting VAR penalty decision vs Atletico Madrid

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has claimed that Arsenal were "absolutely robbed" during their 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg.

While Viktor Gyokeres and Julian Alvarez both scored from the spot for their respective teams, a late decision by referee Danny Makkelie sparked outrage.

After initially pointing to the spot for a foul on Eberechi Eze, Makkelie was advised by VAR to review the incident, leading him to overturn the penalty.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5, Sutton argued that the decision leaves Arsenal with a mountain to climb in the second leg.

“Arsenal would be in an unbelievable position going into the tie at the Emirates next week, and now they have a lot of work to do,” Sutton said.
