Serial Drug Trafficker Solomon Adegbite Sentenced to 15 Years Imprisonment in Lagos
A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Solomon Adegbite, an Italy-based Nigerian, to 15 years in prison without the option of a fine.
The conviction follows his arrest by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for attempting to traffic 1.30kg of Tramadol 225mg, a prohibited narcotic.
Adegbite was intercepted on July 22, 2025, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) while attempting to board a Royal Air Maroc flight to Italy.
The convict had ingeniously concealed the illicit drugs inside a thick winter jacket he was wearing to evade security.
Presiding Justice Musa Kakaki delivered the stern judgment after Adegbite pleaded guilty to a 15-count charge.
Despite pleas for leniency from the defense, the NDLEA prosecutor, Juliana Imaobong Iroabuchi, successfully argued that Adegbite was an "unrepentant repeat offender," having been arrested twice previously for drug-related crimes.
“Granting an option of fine would send the wrong message to society, especially given the devastating impact of hard drugs,” the prosecutor argued.
In addition to the jail term, the court ordered the forfeiture of Adegbite's Italian residence permit, Nigerian international passport, and bank accounts linked to Aderevico Pharmacy.
The case highlighted Adegbite's desperate attempts to manipulate his travel documents during his arrest, further solidifying the court's decision to impose a heavy custodial sentence.
