Neymar Left Out of Brazil Squad for World Cup Friendlies as Carlo Ancelotti Demands Fitness

Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti has omitted superstar forward  Neymar from the 27-man squad for the upcoming friendlies against France and Croatia.

These matches represent the final opportunity for the Italian coach to test his roster before finalizing the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Despite Neymar recently returning to action for Santos and providing an assist in their 1-1 draw with Corinthians, Ancelotti insists that the 34-year-old is not yet at the physical level required for international duty.

"Why did I not call him up this time? Because he is not 100 percent, and we need players who are 100 percent," Ancelotti explained. "Neymar can still be at the World Cup. If he can play at 100 percent, Neymar could be there."

The Seleção will face France in Boston on March 26 and Croatia in Orlando five days later.

The squad notably features four newcomers: Leo Pereira, Gabriel Sara, Igor Thiago, and Rayan.

Additionally, teenage sensation Endrick has been recalled following his stellar performances on loan at Lyon.

Brazil is set to kick off its World Cup campaign on June 13 against Morocco.

While Neymar’s technical ability is not in question, Ancelotti and his backroom staff have made it clear that a "physical evaluation" will dictate whether the veteran icon makes the final tournament list.
