Panic in Maiduguri as Multiple Explosions Hit University Hospital and Post Office
Chaos erupted in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Monday evening as three powerful explosions rocked key locations within the city.
The incidents, which occurred around 7:15 p.m., targeted the Post Office area near the Monday Market and the main entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the blasts, stating that while the Post Office and UMTH incidents are verified, details regarding a third blast at the Monday Market are still being gathered.
“Yes, there were reports of explosions at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital main gate and Post Office area... the number of casualties are still sketchy as the victims had been taken to different hospitals,” Daso said.
Amateur footage obtained by Channels Television showed a frantic scene as victims were evacuated for emergency medical attention.
An AFP reporter at the UMTH confirmed seeing dozens of wounded persons seeking treatment.
This fresh wave of violence comes less than 24 hours after an attack on the Ajilari community and follows a warning from Governor Babagana Zulum regarding the escalating use of armed drones by non-state actors.
The insurgency in the North-East, led by Boko Haram and ISWAP, has claimed over 40,000 lives in 16 years.
Security agencies are currently on high alert as they work to confirm the total number of fatalities from Monday's coordinated strikes.
