Terror has gripped the Omugo community in Ifelodun LGA, Kwara State, as bandits who abducted eight worshippers from an ECWA church on Sunday have demanded a staggering ₦1 billion ransom for their release.
The Pastor-in-Charge, Toba Omole, confirmed that the kidnappers established contact on Tuesday, allowing families a brief, harrowing conversation with their loved ones, including his wife.
The exorbitant demand has thrown the rural community into despair, with many residents describing the sum as impossible to raise.
"This is far beyond what we can afford. We are appealing for urgent government intervention," Pastor Omole stated during a press briefing on Wednesday.
The situation worsened on Wednesday evening when suspected bandits extended their rampage to the neighboring Oro-Ago community.
In a fresh assault, the attackers killed the local vigilante commander and seriously injured the town’s Chief Security Officer (Olu-òde), identified as Odeyemi.
