Gift Oladele, a 24-year-old Nigerian national living in the United Kingdom, is facing a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of the violent rape of a 19-year-old woman in Wrexham.
According to reports from the Daily Mail, the incident occurred in September 2025 when Oladele dragged the victim into a wooded area while she was walking home from a night out.
The case has sparked intense debate in the UK regarding immigration laws and human rights.
It was revealed that the Home Office had ordered Oladele’s deportation in 2023 following a prior two-year jail term for false imprisonment in Manchester.
However, Oladele successfully appealed the deportation by citing Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, arguing that his "right to a private and family life" would be breached if he were sent to Nigeria, a country he claimed to have no ties to despite his nationality.
Oladele was convicted last Friday and remains in custody pending his sentencing in April.
This case mirrors the recent 10-year sentencing of another Nigerian student, Chiemeka Okoronta, who was also ordered for deportation following a similar assault in West Yorkshire.
