Former AGF Abubakar Malami Declares "No Regrets" as He Begins Legal Battle Over Money Laundering Charges
Nigeria’s former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has officially broken his silence following his release from custody.
Speaking in a recent interview with DCL Hausa, Malami maintained a defiant stance, stating he has no regrets over his actions during his tenure in office despite currently facing a 16-count charge of alleged money laundering alongside his wife and son.
Malami’s recent legal ordeal saw him move between EFCC custody, Kuje Prison, and the Department of State Services (DSS).
He was granted bail in the sum of N200 million by a Federal High Court in Abuja on February 27, 2026, over separate terrorism-related allegations.
Having fulfilled his bail conditions, the former minister is now preparing to defend his record and his family against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
“I believe it is all God’s will, and I accept it, but I will defend myself against the allegations,” Malami stated. “They violated my rights by searching my houses and business premises without notifying me... Constitutionally, I have the right to be present.”
The former minister alleged that security agencies breached his fundamental rights by conducting searches on his properties without his supervision.
Despite the intensity of the ongoing investigations, Malami remains resolute, concluding that his time as a minister was served with a clear conscience.
