Nollywood Icon Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde Makes Global History with 'Mother’s Love' Charity Donation
In a move that has stunned the global cinema industry, Nollywood legend and TIME 100 honoree Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has committed 100 percent of the box office proceeds from her directorial debut, ‘Mother’s Love,’ to charity.
The proceeds, accrued to her company RedHot Concepts, will be donated in full to Slum2School Africa, a Nigerian NGO providing educational and housing support to vulnerable children.
This unprecedented act of giving places 'Mother’s Love' among only four films in global cinema history to commit total theatrical proceeds—not just profits—to philanthropy.
Unlike previous models used by Hollywood giants like Steven Spielberg or Disney, Omotola's commitment covers the entire 8-to-10-week Nigerian exhibition run, focusing specifically on the Makoko waterside community in Lagos.
The announcement was made during a star-studded private screening on March 13, 2026, attended by traditional rulers from Makoko and high-profile figures such as Ifueko Omoigui-Okauro and Ambassador Nimi Akinkugbe.
The donation process will be overseen by independent legal advisers and auditors to ensure transparency.
“The Board of Directors of RedHot Concepts has formally resolved that all proceeds... are directed in full to Slum2School Africa,” the company stated.
By joining the ranks of films like The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind in terms of social impact, Omotola has cemented her 30th year in film with a legacy that transcends the screen, directly transforming the lives of the community that inspired her story.
