The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered a gruesome eight-month-old murder mystery following the arrest of 35-year-old Chukwudalu Ezeani.
The suspect is accused of killing his 52-year-old cousin, Chinedu Ezeani, and burying his remains in a shallow grave within his own compound in Afube village, Amichi.
The crime, which reportedly took place on August 1, 2025, went undiscovered for nearly a year as the suspect successfully concealed the location of the body.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the victim had originally been declared a missing person at the Amichi Police Station.
However, a breakthrough occurred on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, when operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) acted on fresh intelligence.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect killed the deceased at his residence and buried the body in a shallow grave within his compound, concealing the crime for about eight months,” Ikenga stated.
During interrogation, Chukwudalu allegedly confessed to the homicide and led detectives to the burial site.
Police have since exhumed the decomposing remains for forensic examination.
The suspect remains in custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are finalized.
